Knobs & Pulls
How do I... which do I pick... how do I measure... Read on for your answers!

How do I pick my cabinet hardware?
Selecting cabinet hardware is where style meets individuality—and at HardwareDirect, every choice is a winning one. Elevate your space with our premium designs, every pick is a confident upgrade. Browse our thoughtfully curated range online, draw inspiration from our design resources, and discover the perfect finishing touch for your space.
Can I mix and match knobs and pulls within the same space?
Absolutely! That’s exactly why HardwareDirect knobs and pulls come in curated collections. Each collection is designed so you can mix and match knobs and pulls—across shapes, sizes, and finishes—while still achieving a cohesive, polished look throughout your kitchen.
Do all knobs and pulls come with screws?
All Hardware direct knobs and pulls come with up to 2 different screws. One is 1 inch long and fits most standard cabinets and some drawers. The other screw is 1 3/4" long for thicker cabinets and most drawers, this screw has sections that allow you to customize the length of the screw by breaking it off where needed.
How do I use the correct size for my project?
Hardware Direct boasts one of the widest assortments of knobs and pulls in the industry, so you’re almost guaranteed to find the perfect fit. Knobs are simple—just one mounting hole—while pulls require attention to the center-to-center screw spacing. Our handy filters make the process easy: use the filter on the left side of any page and choose “Center-to-Center” to zero in on the exact pull size you need.
Product Care & Use
Our products are crafted for indoor use unless specified otherwise. For routine care, wipe with a soft, non-abrasive cloth lightly moistened with clear water or a mild dish soap like Dawn™ and warm water, then dry thoroughly. Avoid harsh cleaners, waxes, or leaving water or soap residue behind, as these can damage the protective finish and void the warranty.
Hinges 101

What are the Types of Hinges?
There are 3 main types are Full overlay, Half overlay, and Inset hinges.
What is a Half Overlay Hinge
Half Overlay Hinges are a type of cabinet hinge where the cabinet door partially covers the frame, typically by about half the frame's width, when closed. This leaves a visible gap of exposed frame between adjacent doors.
Half overlay hinges are designed for face-frame cabinets
What is a Full Overlay Hinge
Full overlay hinges allow a cabinet door to completely cover the face frame of the cabinet, creating a seamless and modern look. This means the door sits over the entire edge of the cabinet box, with minimal gaps between doors when closed. Full overlay hinges are popular for modern cabinetry and come in both soft-close and self-close varieties.
What is an Inset Hinge?
And Inset Hinge, also known as a butt hinge, is a type of cabinet hinge where the door sits flush with the cabinet frame, meaning it's set inside the frame's opening rather than overlapping it. This design provides a clean, seamless look, often seen in more traditional or custom cabinet styles.
How do I measure my hinge?
To measure cabinet hinges, you'll primarily need to determine the hinge overlay and cup depth, and sometimes the mounting plate connection type. Overlay refers to how much the door overlaps the cabinet frame. Cup depth is the size of the circular hole in the door for the hinge. Removing the hinge and using a measuring tape is often necessary.
How to Measure Overlay and Cup Depth?
Overlay: is the amount the door overlaps the cabinet frame on the hinge side.
- Method 1 (with tape): Apply a piece of tape to the cabinet frame, even with the door's edge. Open the door and mark the frame's edge on the tape. Close the door and mark the door's edge on the tape. Measure the distance between the marks.
- Method 2 (without tape): If you can clearly see the frame's edge, measure directly from the frame's edge to the door's edge.
- Standard Overlay Sizes: Common overlays are 1/2", 3/4", and 1 1/4" (or 1/4" for smaller doors).
Measuring Cup Depth:
- Cup depth: is the depth of the circular hole in the door where the hinge sits.
- Method: If the hinge is removed, use a tape measure to determine the hinge cup depth.
- Common Cup Sizes: 35mm is a common diameter, but larger hinges may have 40mm cups.
How do I find replacement hinges?
Check for Markings:
Look for markings on the hinge itself, which can indicate the overlay or other specifications.
Consider a Sample Order: If unsure, order a small number of hinges to test before committing to a larger purchase
